This letter was submitted to the club historian for use in the 10 year history information, and has been kindly allowed to be added to this website.
The “Blue Room” refered to in the letter is what the club rooms were often called.
The Building has just recently been painted Grey and is now the “Grey Building”

LAC HISTORY COLLECTION CONTRIBUTION

My husband and I have now been members tor 4 years. One of the comments we constantly hear is: ”One of the best things l ever did was join LAC”, This is a wonderful reflection on the type of Club which has been built from those first meetings ten years ago.
We came to live in Geelong not knowing a soul (except our daughter) and I never bothered to look at people’s faces as I walked the streets because I did not know anyone. Early on after our move here, we needed a small job done to our carpet, and along came a recommended trades-person… Ron Kenneady.   Chatting away, he asked us what we were going to do with ourselves and we said we would probably join a bush walking club – an activity we had been involved in previously.   He told us about his enjoyment of being a (then) new member of LAC and agreed to send us a Newsletter which had details of activities listed on it. We kept it tucked away for almost a year, then one Tuesday went to the ‘Blue Room’ (nervously) to see if we could join the walks.   What a wonderful welcome we got from Les and June Hannah who introduced us to others, and on that day Tom Lambert was good enough to walk and chat with us.
Then we ventured into the Bike Group and,…   well … we are hooked.   We keep so fit we surprise our children; we can, sort of, keep up with our grandchildren and of course, we can no longer walk down the street and not look at faces as we go. As for bush walking, well, there just isn’t the time!!
